About this class

Run by Bad Dog founder Ralph MacLeod, who has 40+ years of improv experience in Toronto. This drop-in is aimed at experienced improvisers who are looking to get on stage more and ramp up their stagecraft. In this drop-in, you will learn: • How to play with regular audiences and give them a good time • Increase awareness of your stage presence • Focus on how to engage and hold the audience • The exact moments that make an audience laugh • Justify anything that is thrown your way • Deeper philosophies around the fundamentals of improv and good storytelling in general You will learn these through a series of rotating formats such as: • Short-form games designed to pump up an audience • Long-form formats such as Directed Plays, the monoscene, genres, and characters This class focuses heavily on how plot is derived from character and emotion, and will elevate your scenes to be more meaningful and fun for regular audiences. Students who take part may be invited to participate with the regular SoCap Comedy Players in shows and get real stage time.

Want a taste of Ralph’s approach? He shares some of these philosophies on the SoCap Comedy podcast. It’s worth a listen on its own, but it’s definitely not homework and you don’t need to hear it before joining.
