THE 2nd ANNUAL SHORT SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL

The Social Capital in association with our sponsor Amsterdam Brewery is pleased to be hosting the 2nd Annual Short Short Play Festival! This is a festival that showcases some of the best writers, actors, directors and producers both new and established. Best of all, it’s packaged in tasty morsels that allow the audience to sample a broad variety of what all this talent has to offer!

Each show will feature three 20 minute short plays featuring a range of genres.

This year’s plays are:

Snap – Written & Directed by Joanne Latimer
“Well I’m not sure throwing your neighbour’s lawnmower through his front window is entirely an appropriate expression. “
“Hey, I think I showed some pretty good restraint. I made sure I turned it off first.”

Thick With Birds – Written & Directed by Kyle Capstick
MARIAH pulls a black bird from where her liver would be. It’s dead. SHE sings it a brief song then starts digging a hole to bury it.
MARIAH – Jacqueline Peter     SAMARA – Jenna Daley

The Interplanetary Adventures Of Flashman – Written & Directed by David Healey

FLASHMAN – Tim MacLean     ANNOUNCER – Ralph MacLeod

Hyenas – Written & Directed by Matt Sadowski

NICKY – Meghan Heffern     CHUCK –Drew Nelson

Palau – Written by Rob Salerno – Directed by Dahlia Katz
“…but tell me what you’ve been up to. Who’s your best friend here?”

JOHN – Ariana Leask      MICHAEL – Nicole Karges     PETER PAN – Joanna Decc

The White Stag – Written & Directed by Nicholas Surges
“There is an old legend. Mother used to speak of it. The White Stag. It’s said that whoever can catch it will be granted a wish. And I’ve seen it, darting through the shadows of the trees. I’ve baited traps. I’ve waited patiently. Tonight, I become the hunter.”
ARTHUR – Nicholas Surges    LADY – Brianna C. Love
WESLEY/WHITE STAG – Matt Dawson

Simulationship – Sponsored by the Toronto Cold Reads
Written by David Straus   Directed by Marcia Johnson
“Don’t get me wrong, the ‘A.I. experience’ is impressive and all, but it’s not human contact. Isn’t it weird that we say ‘human contact’? It’s like we’re aliens or something.”
“Everything looks better on camera.”
“You’re better in real life.”
BETH – Anna Douglas     RYAN – David Straus     Special Thanks – Jarrett Rusnak

When There’s A Will – Written & Directed by Chantal Forde

“I see. Sometimes. You’re sometimes overwhelmed.”
“Yeah.”
“Yes.”
“By me.”

The Oldest Trick In The Book – Written by & Starring Melissa Taylor
“I just sort of ran. I’ll tell you, I was emotive. I got worked up. It’s silly, ‘cause I’m twelve now, almost thirteen, and that sort of behavior is very preteen. But we’re only human, right?”

The Pugilist – Written & Directed by Jake Martin
“In the movement of the arm, there is history! The bruises and welts of every punch ever thrown against you, every hit you’ve ever taken shaped into something so uniquely beautiful. My punch. My stance. Pugilism is an artform. That’s how I got here.”
“What are you talking about? Did you like punch through the barriers of time?”
