  • Ralph Macleod

    Founder, Instructor

    Ralph MacLeod is a Toronto based actor/improviser/comedian and the Owner/Artistic Director of The Social Capital Theatre. He is also a co-founder of the Bad Dog Theatre. Ralph has produced, created, directed, starred in, and/or written hundreds of live shows. He’s also the host of the popular, The Dating Game. He is heavily involved in bringing improv to the corporate world through his company Yes, Unlimited. Recently, he has developed Improv for Social Skills, using the tenants of improv and mindfulness to teach people how to interact and play with other human beings.

    As an actor Ralph has appeared in dozens of tv shows and commercials. Credits include, Extreme Babysitting, Undercover High (Nominated for an International Kids Emmy Award), Race for the Whitehouse, The Bushes, Cleared for Chaos, Canada: The Story of Us, Paranormal Witness, Fear Thy Neighbor, and many, many more.

  • Kerry Griffin

    Instructor

    Kerry has been acting and improvising around Toronto for over 25 years. After training at the famed Second City, Kerry went on to be a co-founder of improv troupe Slap Happy which performed at festivals across North America and even a couple in Europe. Kerry eventually returned to the Second City, joining it’s main stage cast where he wrote and performed in two award winning revues. After leaving the cast he went on to direct several critically acclaimed shows for the Second City and has also directed several shows for the Toronto Fringe Festival.

    Kerry is also an accomplished actor having appeared in television shows like Designated Survivor, Schitt’s Creek, The Expanse, Murdoch Mysteries, Covert Affairs and Degrassi: The Next Generation. He has also been seen or heard in over 100 television and radio commercials, perhaps most recognized as ‘the Diamond Shreddies guy’, ‘the insurance guy’, or ‘that guy from that commercial’. Kerry has won 10 Canadian Comedy Awards over the years, including twice being named Best Male Improviser.

    Currently Kerry teaches improv regularly at The Second City and The Social Capital Comedy Theatre
    and performs regularly with The Coincidence Men in the monthly Stupid Good Comedy Show. He also regularly works with companies and organizations of all kinds, delivering improvisational entertainment experiences and workshops of all kinds.

  • Ken Hall

    Instructor

    Ken Hall is a Canadian Comedy Award Winner (Best Breakout Artist) and multiple CCA award nominee, including most recently, Comedic Artist of the Year. Ken plays the lovable Herb and provides motion capture as the body of Pogo in Netflix's THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY.

    Ken is also is one-half of the critically acclaimed comedic duo 2-MAN NO-SHOW with his comedic soulmate, Isaac Kessler, and has had the pleasure to work for CIRQUE DE SOLEIL.

    Ken has appeared in numerous film and television roles including two seasons on TBS’s hit series PEOPLE OF EARTH and has appeared as a guest on CONAN and most recently performed in Canadian Stage's Shakespeare adaptation of 'As You Like It' for it's Dream In High Park series as well as playing no less than 15 characters in Young People's Theatre Production of 'Snow White'.

    Ken teaches Public Speaking at The Second City, Clownprov at Bad Dog Theatre, and improv at The Social Capital Theatre and
    The Assembly in Toronto.

    Ken was recently awarded the Frank McAnulty Award for Faculty Instructor of the Year 2019 at The Second City.

  • Reid Janisse

    Instructor

    Reid is a Toronto based actor, writer, teacher, director and improviser who has been teaching improv for more than twenty years. During this time, he has taught in the improvisation, conservatory, writing, and kids/teens programs at The Second City Training Centre, and has written, directed and facilitated with Second City Works. Reid wrote and performed in four Second City Mainstage revues including the Dora nominated Second City for Mayor and the Canadian Comedy Award winning Barack to the Future and 0% Down, 100% Screwed. His directing credits include Rebel Without a Cosmos (SC Mainstage), The Best of the Second City, The Second City’s Nut Cracking Holiday Revue, Slap Shot Live!, In The Game, Superdude and Doctor Rude, Improv Extravaganza Explosion (SC Chicago) and several other family productions and conservatory grad revues. As the Creative Director of Mad Science Productions, Reid spent ten years writing and directing international touring shows such as Newton’s Revenge, CSI: Live! and Star Trek Live: Starfleet Academy. His passion for musical improv led him to perform with the troupe Songbuster and in the show One Night Only: The Greatest Musical Never Written. He has a B.A. in Drama in Education from the University of Windsor, and a B. Ed. from the University of Toronto. Most recently, you might have seen him in the Lookup Theatre production Toronto Circus Riot, in the shows Murdoch Mysteries, The Boys, American Gods, Orphan Black and Odd Squad, or on your screen selling you insurance, cars or hamburgers.

  • Lisa Merchant

    Instructor

    Lisa is a highly sought-after improvisation instructor/facilitator/performer. She has been studying, performing and teaching the art of improvisation for over 30 years.

    Currently a professor at Humber College in the Faculty of Media & Creative Arts - teaching Improvisation for the Comedy Program.
    Lisa is a 30 year Senior Faculty member at The Second City Training Centre and corporate facilitator with The Second City Works division and privately.

    She is a multiple nominee and winner of 4 Canadian Comedy Awards, 3 for Best Female Improvisor. Lisa was a cast member of the Gemini nominated Joe Blow Show. Some television credits include: Murdoch Mysteries, Private Eyes, American Gods, Degrassi XV, Train 48...
    Most recently she taught workshops at Angel Comedy in London, U.K. and performed there. She was thrilled to be invited to perform in the Artic Comedy Festival in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Lisa actively performs around Toronto, across Canada and beyond!

  • Ed Sahely

    Ed spent seven years with The Second City receiving a Dora Mavor Moore Award for work on the Toronto Main-Stage.     Description Alastair Forbes is a Second City Alumni and award winning improvisor. Having worked his way up through Second City's Education Company and Touring company Alastair created and performed three mainstage revues for Second City Toronto. Since then Alastair has been fortunate to travel around the world performing and teaching improv in Cape Town, Copenhagen, Athens, London, Edinburgh, Vancouver and Montreal to name a few. He was named the best International Improviser at Improvfest in Vancouver and is a three time nominee for Canadian Comedy Awards best Male Improviser. A winner of the World's Biggest Improv Tournament, Alastair's biggest accomplishment is coming in second place for amateur men over 40 at the Toronto Island Disc Golf Tournament.goes here
