Performance artist Chris Fair will bring his one-of-a-kind The Laser Comedy Show to Toronto’s Social Capitol Theatre (154 Danforth Ave – Second Floor, M4K 1N1) for a laser pointed weekend of comedy shows for a variety of ages on the following dates and times: Saturday, Sept. 7 th. 10:30pm Ages 18+; Sunday, Sept. 8th , 5:30pm – All Ages; and Sunday, Sept. 8th , 6:30pm – Ages 13+.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for ages 16 and under which are available at the door. Doors open 15-20 minutes before each show time.
Performing a live-drawn cartoon puppet show with lasers is no easy task. Fair combines his talents of art and long-form improv to passionately construct an exhilarating and gut-busting experience. He holds laser pens in both hands like pencils to illustrate audience suggestions into an improvised story on a special light-reactive screen. His art comes to life as he voice-acts all of his characters and sounds. The audience intensely watches Fair lay out dozens of illustrated perspectives per show as they wonder in real time what curious set of lines Chris is drawing now. The realization hits them right in the funny bone.
“I’ve never seen anything like it!” – Everyone
“It was Phenomenal! A Real Joy to Watch!” – Tj Jagodowski – TJ & Dave
“(The Laser Comedy Show is) Completely original… Feel good inside magical.” – Time Out Magazine
Chris’s journey to perform The Laser Comedy Show has been a lucky process: He’s overcome a speech impediment and fear of public speaking. He’s been a talented artist since childhood, which was rare for speech-impaired children. He became ambidextrous when his parents made him switch from left to right-handed. He performed five years of stand-up comedy and – when the recession laid him off – he followed his heart in pursuing improv comedy. Most importantly, after being introduced to laser-reactive technology, he was driven to make it into a comedy show that he’s now performed at 40 comedy festivals and six self-organized tours throughout the U.S. and Europe.
